First “murder hornet” nest in U.S. found along B.C. border
Eighty-five live “murder hornets” have been found in the U.S. near B.C.’s border.
This is believed to be the first discovery of an Asian giant hornet nest in the United States. According to Entomologists at the Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) the nest was found in Blaine, Washington near the Peace Arch Border crossing.
The discovery comes after detecting hornets in separate traps on Wednesday and Thursday. Entomologists attached radio trackers to three hornets, which led them to the nest.
WSDA entomologists spent weeks searching for and trapping the hornets before finding the nest located in a tree near an area cleared for a residential home.
Dozens of the hornets were seen entering and exiting the tree while the WSDA team was present. Entomologist, Sven-Erik Spichiger was thankful none of his team was injured.
Local MMA trainer and coach opens home gym after losing job to pandemic
Evan Nazareth is a local MMA trainer and coach who lost his job at the UFC gym in Richmond last year due to the pandemic.
The gym ended up going bankrupt as they couldn’t stay open due to the lack of funding as a partial result from the spread of COVID-19.
Now, to make ends meet and continue his lifelong passion, he’s opened up his own place right at home. For people like Nazareth, this isn’t just a business or an opportunity to make money.
After an eye opening incident involving a close friend last year, Nazareth knew he had to change something and show people how to protect themselves and be comfortable doing it.
Nazareth figured he should buy some gym mats, invest in a little bit of equipment and ride it out at his home gym in his garage. He has friends, clients and family over for sessions and does it all while being safe.
